I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy

We liked having my parents here for a few weeks in July. Though they were staying with Kevin, we got to see them fairly frequently.

State Little League Tournament in Lehi. They won this game, but lost their other two. It was fun, anyway. Jacob got hit in the wrist by a pitch and we thought his arm might be broken. It wasn't.

Driving through the beautiful canyons of California on our way back to Utah. What a fun trip we had, even if it was H-O-T!!

As soon as we got home, Paul had his wisdom teeth extracted, plus 6 baby teeth--all molars. How was he supposed to chew?

June was a wild and crazy month! Will at the hospital for surgery to repair a hernia.

Y not? This tree died, so we chopped it down. We left the big "Y" up for a few weeks, though, just to show we were real fans.

We hosted a huge block party (the whole ward) and Jared cooked hot dogs for everyone.

Robert received his Arrow of Light in Cub Scouts and became a Boy Scout. Here he is by the scout statue at the Council Office.

We love living right by the Provo Temple. The kids said that the Angel Moroni was the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow.

John healed thumb. Got the pin out right before going to Silver Moccasin.

Cousins came from Korea! This is Sarah and Miriam.

Will, John, and Paul heading off to Silver Moccasin National Youth Leadership Training Camp. Will was Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Instructor, John was a Troop Guide, Paul was an assistant for getting the camp set up (since Will and John were both healing from surgery), then a participant on the course (for the second time).

Sarah begged Jared to take her training wheels off her bike. An hour later she was riding it all over the place.

Jared worked really hard to get the tile done in the bathroom.

I took the cub scouts to day camp. Jacob loved it!

I also took the Webelos to day camp. Very rainy at first, then tapered off so the kids could go boating, then a HUGE storm came up with microburst winds (like a tornado).

It got very dark just before lunch, and the temperature dropped significantly. Then it started to POUR. I took this picture of the kids eating in the rain. Soon it started to rain sideways, soaking everyone and everything. I tried to help the kids put their ponchos back on (they took them off to eat under the pavilion). Then came the hail. It was so loud we couldn't hear someone talking right next to us. The camp staff was trying to tell us what to do but no one could hear them. Thunder and lightning were right on top of us. Since we were under a metal roof with metal posts, we had to keep the kids together in the middle and not let anyone touch anything. A tree fell over onto a car, the parking lot flooded, the registration tent was blown upside down . . . It was pretty scary. Some kids were crying, some were excited. They decided to evacuate the camp. As soon as the storm let up a tiny bit and they deemed it was safe enough for us to leave, they started letting us go one carload at a time. We were parked the farthest away, so left last. We had to use all of our outdoor weather safety training, but no one got struck by lightning and everyone made it out safely. I don't know the fate of the squashed car, though! What an adventure!

Jake got beaned by a baseball during the Little League tournament. Ouch!

He got two hits that game and received the game ball.

Robert won a medal for first place in the shot put at the Track meet in Heber.

For Robert's 11th birthday, our family went to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house. It was awesome!

I am so glad my family can be together forever!

Afterward, we ate Chinese food and then went to Hollywood Connection.

Sarah and Elizabeth went to ride horses at Tender Heart Ranch with Donna Hansen. There was a new baby horse named Shadow.

Jared took the scouts on a hike to Silver Lake. The way up was awesome, but they were caught in a sudden storm and had to bail out without camping over. The hail, freezing temperatures, rain, and wind came up so suddenly, they didn't have time to put on their ponchos before everyone and everything was soaked. Some started to get hypothermia. Jared took good care of the boys, though, and got them all home safely. He even got them pizza for dinner.

Will and John got to march in the Provo Children's Parade with the Timpview Band. Due to surgery and scout camp, this was the only parade John did this year.

Also in June, we found out that my dad had prostate cancer. He and my mom came to Utah for treatment and they stayed for nearly a month at my brother's house in Salt Lake City. The surgery was successful!!
