Pinewood Derby

I love cub scouts. I get to be Robert's Den Leader, and this month our Pack Meeting was a Pinewood Derby. I gave each of the boys in our den a car kit for Christmas and they spent a few weeks building and personalizing their cars. Then came the big race! Parents, siblings, scout leaders, and interested neighbors lined the track. On your mark! Get set! Go! In a flash of red, blue, green, and silver the cars sped downhill and raced to the finish line. Over and over they raced, feeling the thrill of accomplishment. In the end, each one was declared a winner for fulfilling the Cub Scout Motto: DO YOUR BEST. And as Jared always says, "Whoever has the most fun wins!"

Movie Night

What could be more fun than having 10 people sick all at the same time? Just about everything! This week was pretty miserable, but one fun thing we did together was watch some old movies. We started a "movie night" tradition a couple of years ago. It is very simple--on Saturday nights after everyone is ready for bed, we gather in the family room and watch a fun movie together. Sometimes we eat pizza or popcorn, sometimes we iron or fold laundry, but usually we just all snuggle together on the couch and enjoy each others' company. We aren't a TV-watching family and it's usually too expensive to go to a theater, so this is a real treat.

This week the movies we watched were "A Night at the Circus" and "A Night in Casablanca," both featuring the Marx Brothers. I've been surprised that many of the younger generation (under 30) have never heard of the Marx Brothers! They were a fantastic comedic family famous in the 1930s-40s. My boys especially love their jokes, gimmicks, and musical abilities. One year our second son dressed up as Harpo for Halloween. Many of the elderly people in our neighborhood recognized his character, but the younger people just thought he was a clown. If you like to laugh, enjoy glorious black and white footage, and don't mind predictable plots or bad puns, check out some of these movies!

Welcome

Welcome to our bigfunfamily blog! We are a family of 10 and have lots of fun together. I created this blog so we can remember all of the great things we have done. Our family consists of a mom and a dad, six boys, and two girls. Some of the things we enjoy together are reading books, playing board games, geocaching, making music, scouting, cooking & eating, going on vacation, learning new things, visiting relatives, and helping others. We live in the United States of America in the great state of Utah. Most of our children are homeschooling, so we have lots of time to do fun things together!
